چکیده

Digital elevation model (DEM) generation from stereo images is an effective and economical method in topography mapping. This paper used the stereo pair methodology to generate the digital elevation model (DEM) from PRISM (Panchromatic Remote-Sensing Instrument Satellite) sensor which is onboard of ALOS (Advanced Land Observing Satellite). The pair of forward-backward is used as stereoscopic imagery in this study. Ten ground control points (GCPs) are collected with residual error 0.49 pixels to generate an absolute DEM. This generated DEM with 2.5 m spatial resolution is then matched with the 90 m spatial resolution of SRTM (Space Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) DEM to compare the result. Although SRTM-DEM has a much coarser resolution, the positional accuracy of the matching is found. The difference of the height from the mean sea level (MSL) between the SRTM-DEM and the PRISM-DEM is analyzed and the correlation between the two DEMs is R2=0.8083. The accuracy of the DEM generated is given by the RMSE value of 0.8991 meter.

Refinement of Urban Digital Elevation Models from Very High Resolution Stereo Satellite Images

Digital elevation models (DEM) of high resolution and high quality are required for many applications like urban modeling, readiness for catastrophes or disaster assessment. A good source for the derivation of such DEMs from any place in the world are very high resolution (VHR) satellite stereo images as provided e.g. by Ikonos, QuickBird or WorldView. In this paper a method for the generation ...

Using WorldView-1 Stereo Data with or without Ground Control P Automatic DEM Generation

The successful operation of the WorldView-1 satellite has enabled advanced high-accuracy mapping using high-resolution satellite images, with or without the use of ground control points (GCPs). The stereo capability of the WorldView-1 sensor also provides the opportunity to extract high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs). This article will examine the effectiveness of automatic DEM extr...

Orthorectification and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Generation Using Cartosat-1 Satellite Stereo Pair in Himalayan Terrain

High resolution data have high relief displacement in hilly terrains. Development of Digital Elevation model helps to assess bio resources more accurately in such terrains. While estimating bio resources in the Himalayan hilly terrain using multispectral LISS-III data of 23 m spatial resolution, the need for orthorectifcation of satellite data was necessary to correct for spatial distances due ...

Automatic DEM generation by multi-image feature based matching

One of the major difficulties in the automatic generation of digital elevation models (DEMs) is the procurement of approximate values. This presentation shows a new development based on the extraction of discrete points by an interestoperator and epipolar line intersection techniques in multiple overlapping images. The method can be considered an extension of well-known automatic DEM generation...

Singularity Mitigation in Automated DEM Extraction from IKONOS Images

Extraction of a digital elevation model from high resolution satellite images such as IKONOS is important for many applications. One of the most popular techniques hired for automated DEM extraction is stereo matching. However, high resolution satellite images possess some properties that make automated stereo matching difficult. They present edges of individual buildings, building facades and ...
